I know this seems radical but anyone who thinks this wasnt going to happen soon is really just fooling themselves. We are all now some of the last few who will get the chance to settle in the UK and the transition has begun. Almost all countries have made it impossible, if not stopped completely, th...

Final Checks with 195 days out - Appointment on the 16th

Hi All, Been contributing to and seeking advice from this forum for many years now. Anyways, with everything in place, forms filled and documentation in hand, the only niggling worry is my 195 days out over 5 years with nothing over 90 days at a stretch. However, of these Days out on Business Trips ...

If you have your last 3 statements showing salary paid, preferably highlighting employer name and carry the original contract you should be fine as this is ample proof that you are working for the company. Try to time your application as soon as you receive your salary/ bank statement to prove you a...

Hello and thank you everyone for the advice. I have another meeting with my supervisors boss Tuesday to discuss all of this. I don't care if he doesn't like it... My company doesn't have an HR department and his supervisor is the closest thing I have. I agree that this is probably going to end up w...

Always take advice from us members with a pinch of salt. I say this because job hunting and bagging that great offer is all very dependant on the candidate in question. A really quick look on Cityjobs throws up so many BA roles - both contracts and perm roles with salaries from as low as £35k to as...

I was just reading through and I'd just like to ask. This sort of company taking cuts on salaries just to provide a CoS, is this not exploitation of workers? A one-off fee is ok but continuously taking a percentage of the workers' pay?! Well thats how they make money and run a business - thats the ...

trust me, the first lawyer was rubbish - many with over 180 days and most of Annual Leave have applied in person and been successful. In your case, any lawyer can make a strong case for you without any trouble at all. Good for you to take a second opinion and to go ahead - dont worry at all. If it w...

Well, from the 4 points you put and asked, it sure seems like you werent clear of your objectives. If your extension is secured with either roles then my advice would be to take the London contract offer 1. Contract pays decent 2. Possible 12 month duration which is not common 3. Further options for...

you are still not clear on what your end goal is here 1. Are you ensuring you have sufficient points and earnings for extension/PR - if so, the 12 month contract achieves that and a lot more. Do not calculate salary after tax. Everything here looks at your total package without any tax deductions 2....

Its generally good to have the letter dated within the last 30days however the reason there is no guidelines is because you will be showing proof for salary earned in the past few months and if its the same employer its clear that the employer letter is still valid as they are still paying you a sal...

Yes, in many places this is common because essentially a contracting role comes along when a company does not have in house skills to perform the role. Now, as you may know, if in a permanent role, one really doesnt bother if a project kick off gets delayed by 1 week or 1 year but it makes a big dif...

Consulting by definition is providing a specialised service. I don’t know how one can be a consultant without being a specialist (with lot of experience) in one field. Quite a grey area really but 1. Electronic P60 statements

Hi, Recently, many companies have begun issuing eCopy of the yearly P60 forms. To my horror, mine did too stating its an acceptable replacement though it clearly says its a copy of the P60. Can I take a colour printout of this eCopy to show yearly earnings for 2010-11? Or is this not enough and a st...

This is similar to what a contractor does right ? He is registered with his parent company or umbrella company and works for a client ? The common mistake made is confusing contracting with consulting. What recruiters and the general market term as contracting is when you work on your own, as an in...

Let me keep the end goal as eligibility for Tier 1 extension and reply to your queries. When you said the contract offer pays 25% more, did you mean on a 12 month basis or just a monthly basis? This is quite important because working for 12 months at 25% less per month compared to your contract is a...
