Gujalls, You make it sound like we are fighting for our lives in the UK! Please remember that such statistics are meant for the entire population and not for highly skilled workers, so dont read too much into those figures. Even during the normal economic times, people used to have only temporary wo...

Vanadil, You are bang on and I can back what you have stated. I have stated similar things in so many posts. The market is definitely more competitive but not dead. And if one is a highly skilled person, 1 or 2 years experience will not help at all in this market. I can re-iterate that I know highly...

One thing to note on point 3, You can enter the UK anytime as long as your visa is valid BUT in order to extend it, you must have worked for the previous 12 months preceding your application. So if your visa was issued on Feb 2009 until Feb 2012, you need to be back in the UK and on a full time job ...

Testing!!! The tag Consultant is used a lot in Europe - Software Consultant, Management Consultant and so on.....I guess it's because many people are contractor and so the term Consultant seems apt. Due to outsourcing, there are also roles where subject matter experts oversee the work done by 3rd pa...

I think you boys need to read very carefully before commenting :-) The overall range is what was presented, and such a wide range is because of the different factors a major one being the city you are working in. Also, there are many who get 28k for a job in London and that includes the locals too! ...

Not an easy question to answer Rahul. There are so many things to consider. Keeping it real simple, the market seems to be picking up. But then some people will say its the same because they have been trying a lot with no success. Your field of expertise, quality experience, expectations, command ov...

It's good to see you have made a decision to stay back now and wait for some time. Dont think twice, atleast you have a plan in mind right? Wait until early 2010. Please note that in Nov and Dec jobs drop down to a trickle as many people go on leave. Jobs are advertised but the main decision makers ...

Hi Raj, Hope this helps you understand how to bargain the final pay package you receive. 1. UK experience though favored is never mandatory. If you are good at what you do, any quality experience counts so dont be perturbed. 2. Final package depends on any added benefits the company puts on the tabl...

That's great Wanderer. I know of a few guys who had 1 year contracts but never more than that! It's a definite bet that you are good at what you do, irrespective of your skill being in demand or not. But at a very generic level for all sectors and levels of work, I would say that initial contracts n...

Depends completely on the sector, job profile, city you work in and benefits the company gives you. But for a 5 yr exp person in the software sector, the lowest would be around 24k to 28k and highest would be around 40k to 45k. Based on the city, getting 40k in London is as good as 30k in a medium c...

Just an update, Jobless rates in the UK are at a 13 yr high. Approx 100k are being made redundant every month. A job is now being lost every 30 seconds and McDonald's receiving 2,200 applications a day which include profiels across all segments like banking, consultancy and so on. The source for thi...

Well guys, Sure looks like a fake one.....there is almost a 0% probability of ever lining up interviews for candidates who are not local to the job. In fact, if you live in South of UK and try for an opening in the North, they must be convinced you will actually take the 4 or 5 hr train ride and go ...

Regarding contracting....

I saw a few posts in here asking what the contracting agents actually do. Well the idea of a 'Contracting Agent' is very different in the UK. If you work as a contractor, you need to register a company name for yourself and have a Corporate account to manage salary and expenses. Though it is relativ...

Let me give you another example of how these 'fake' agents work 1. They advertise a non existent job and lure good candidates - some of whom are even currently working in good jobs 2. In case of unemployed candidates - They ask the candidate if they have applied anywhere else so they can then contac...

Hi Vishu, Answers to help your doubts. Before that just to inform you that the market is not very good. 5+ exp is ok honestly unless Babun RB, who initated this thread, can vouch for that. You say you have SOA experience so then you may stand a chance as that is pickin up a lot here in the Telecoms ...

Hi baburb, Well I think you read me wrong on the 'improve' your English part - I never once spoke of faking an accent, please never do that! The UK Job Market - some facts to help you

Hi All, It's my first post here so let me start with a quick intro. I have been visiting this board for over 5 months now and mainly to understand the immigration rules for my Tier 1 Visa. I am happy to say I did get it a month back. I have been going through this section of the forum constantly to ...
