This is incorrect. They refer to 'salary criteria', not the 'salary' - so the scale of points will be the same, but your salary does not have to be (as long as you pass, obviously).

Judging by a similar experience of non-EEA student I knew - she will not be deported now!
However she will be refused an extension of her Tier 4 visa and will be told to leave on her own + she will be given a visa ban (no idea about the duration of that, sorry).

Citizenship application + name change

I want to anglicise my surname and I read somewhere that if I will make a deed poll I can submit it with naturalisation application form to get naturalisation certificate in a new name. Two questions: 1. Is this actually true? :D 2. What name should I write in form AN? New one as the main name and o...

I'm afraid not - these rules apply to holders of valid work permits who spend time abroad (while on work permit).

Your visa gap did reset your ILR clock.

Probably not. Generally only the citizens and permanent residents of the countries can apply for visas in embassies of EU countries.

You will have to pay Spanish taxes eventually (after you will cross 6 months mark in your first year in Spain). So that cunning plan (which I assume is) to keep Tier 1 valid while living outside Blighty won't work  (and there are some other obstacles too).

What if the applicant requires a second extension to complete 5 years? What rules will he be judged by? What point system? No idea! It's all speculation at this point :( Logically thinking, they would not miss the change to charge people for yet another extension, do they? Plus if they will turn aw...

It's impossible to say! I do find it hard to believe that they will allow people to apply for Tier 1 extensions under old rules indefinitely. I'd imagine they might add a deadline to apply for ILR under old rules (5 years after last admission under old rules) and after it everyone would have to fit ...

Well, they cannot do anything about EU migrants - so to lower the total number they have to be super-strict on non-EU migrants... I think it is a good sign that nothing was said about the extensions for existing T1/T2 holders yesterday - the government wanted to show their 'tough' stance on immigran...

At this moment of time there is absolutely no information about that. I remember that Tories supported transitional measures in Labour's immigration changes in 2009 (which they now cancelled) - so hopefully they will do the same now.

Why not to introduce even higher-band fee, something like a super premium fee, where you don't have to hunt for places months in advance and which would guarantee same day service for straight-forawrd applications. They already did that - for "just" £5000 (or something in that region) they will se...
