It will be instructive if we put together a template letter and individually fire off to our local MP's to take up this incessant increments in fees, very soon it will climax 10,000GBP for dependants at this rate. The increments are totally unjustifiable, we must act now. Is it possible to challenge...

People should keep in mind that the United Kingdom is a sovereign nation. They can let anybody into the country they wish for any reason they wish. Likewise they can keep anybody (or kick anybody out) they wish. This is the fundamental right of any sovereign nation. If the UK decides that people fro...

After having lived here over 6 years (and now actually being qualified for citizenship), I've managed some contacts with other Americans here and there. You can visit several ex-pat forums for Americans and get a pretty good idea. From my experience, many of us come over and get citizenship based on...

Just a specific point about the traveling during pregnancy. My wife was able to change her status from student to dependent (work permit) without leaving the country due to 'special circumstances'. Those circumstances were that she was 6 months pregnant and in otherwise healthy condition. I believe ...

Congrats 2347526. Your story always was sort of sticking around in the recesses of my mind wondering whatever happened with this case. Now maybe you can plan some of things you wanted to do in your life (mentioned earlier in this thread) with a LOT more certainty.

Just to add a little note to this....

My wife was on a student visa until April 2009 (married 2007). She then got her Work permit dependent visa. When we applied for our ILR, we had been living together already the previous 2 years (+). We all got our ILR on January of this year despite her only actually being on that dependent visa for...

I can't find anything on the UKBA website that specifically states when you must actually start working after getting permission and you are already in the country. You have to apply for the permission certainly within 28 days, and you must work for the employer for whom that permission was granted....

Hi Congratulations on your ILR. You have given quite useful information and document list. My question is Is there any gap between changing in employment? i.e. when your contract with 1st employer fininshed and contract with next employer started or they are overlapping? Your answer will be quite h...

i think you mean to say one can be here legally within 28 days time but not working as one can start working after the new work permit approval letter. This is correct. ouflak1, many thanks for posting that. I must admit that when people started posting about the Cardiff PEO that I thought, "no tha...

I am in similar situation. I am applying for ILR under HSMP JR in February. I got married in July 2008. My wife's HSMP dependent visa got refused at first in September 2008. We waited for appeal till May 2009 then applied fresh in May 2009. Her visa was approved and she joined me in UK in July 2009...

oca,

Did anybody call you from the UKBA? Counting the OP mystery applicant, that's atleast two people who've had this requested of them. I'm really curious where this requirement is coming from.

Oh and congrats on getting your ILR!

Hi Congrats for ILR. Its a bit strange to note that you were asked to provide address proof for your wife! I dont know if its because she stayed with you for less than 2 yrs in UK. No such requirement is mentioned nor have I come across this in any forum post. Did they ask you to show the address p...

Cardiff ILR experience

Just wanted to share my experience there as I suspect somewhat few people actually go there for their premium appointment. I did an application for myself and two dependents: my wife and child. This was based on 5yrs Work Permit (only). We had a heck of a time getting any appointment, but my wife wa...

It's incredible that you got that YMS visa. I'd think any officer handling your case would immediately think you're coming to stay with your husband for good or atleast be very suspicious that this was the most likely possibility. You did mention you were married when applying for that visa, right? ...

. I was born and raised in this country, have never left this country and never committed any crimes, so why do I feel like I'm being treated as scum? You were born and raised in the United Kingdom? If that's true, and you stayed continuously in the UK until the age of ten, then you qualify for cit...

You can apply, but you will almost certainly be asked to provide extra documentation demonstrating that you are in a valid relationship, going for a valid marriage. I had to do this for my wife who was on a student visa with less than 3 months left. Wasn't really much of a problem.

Will it work? Well it depends on how sleazy the lawyers are and how much fake evidence they can generate that actually manages to pass muster. Should it work? No. Personally, I wish they would do all of us people doing things the legal way a favor and not even try. Even the failed attempt makes us a...
