I think NCS advise/recommend not to travel for a week after applying. There are lots of threads with useful comments on the same topic.

Have talked to my manager regarding in processing timeline inconsistency and refuse to give information in less than 6months period. He is going to talk to our local MP during the meeting scheduled next week. Don't think a mention to one MP would make a difference but I wanted to take it to someone'...

As mentioned earlier, I cannot speak for Italian embassy. My Schengen visa applications in the past were issued a visa either on the same day or the next business day....so it should be fine.

But if he goes to HK a few days after applying... should be OK, except for the fact that that he might miss letters from UKBA asking for more documentation, or the approval letter, and he will have to return to UK for the ceremony. I assume his employer wanted him to go to HK after ILR in June2012....

I have not applied to Schengen visa at Italian embassy. With my multiple experiences at French, German and Swiss embassies between 2007-2010, I would not get too worried about applying at least 3 weeks in advance if you have all the documents in place. Thank God ceremony is free (well its included not free lol). Wish passport fee was included as well (but then they will increase fees lol). People applied via post usually get the documents before the letter?

Have sent my application via post with an self addressed pre-paid next-day delivery envelope enclosed..no sign of any documents yet.
