Just got back home after submitting my visa app at VFS B'lore. I didn't have an appointment, but thanks to the bandh could finish everything off in exactly an hour.

You don't have to worry about converting the money at the 'right exchange rate'. VFS uses the consular rate of exchange, which is currently at INR70/1GBP.
