Its an old trick which UKBA is aware of. Neither you or your dependent would be allowed to switch in-country both of you need to go back and apply from your home country.

As long as your uni confirms that you successfully achieved your qualification and just waiting for your degree that is acceptable. 'Provisional' implies that there is a possibility degree may or may not be awarded if you meet/do not meet certain other condition.

You don't speak to the caseworker who actually decides your application, calling up UKBA repeatedly may upset few call center people but it is unlikely to have any impact on your application or your decision.
