I think you will come under rules in place after 6th April 2011, which means no provision for ILR and you need to exit UK after 5 years for atleast 1 year cooling off period.

and if you read closer in the excerpt provided by you, it says 'reason for absence' and there is no mention of word 'evidence'. Reason should be inline with your purpose for stay in UK and most likely, they are indeed the same.
You work in capitalist economy and everyone, including UKBA understands this and that is the reason they ask for income in 12 consecutive of last 15 months. Doesn't matter if you are employed/unemployed at time of application as long as you meet their income threshold.
