If you go over 6 months you can call them and they will give an update. How useful that update may be is another matter. I was lucky and managed to get an agent who did give an update before the 6 months was up and he advised that the decision had already been made an a letter was sent 2 days earlie...

You were exceptionally lucky if you got in 5 weeks, most wait 3-4 months.

The contact centre only will give updates after 6 months of applying unless you are very lucky with who you get on the phone.

If you dont want to send your original documents to apply for BC then you need to use the NCS service at your local council and they will make and certify all the copies for you - on the day you turn up with your originals and they do the rest with you taking your original documents away with you

You need to remember that the EEA forms are not asking for permission but instead are asking for recognition of your rights. Your PR is therefore automatic after 5 years of being resident in the UK and exercising treaty rights. It is therefore up to you if you want to complete EEA4 to get the PR car...

Re: Permanent visa since 1980

I would strongly suggest that you consult a qualified adviser or a solicitor as it might be an exemption in your case since you have been permanently living here for more than 3 decades that you do not need to pass the life in the uk test whilst this may be true you do also have to balance cost/ ef...
