@HSK, As per HO guidance you can use the dividend income only if you are the controlling shareholder and running the management of the company. Is this mentioned in the policy guideline document? Kindly point me to a reference please? I am unable to find this in the policy guidelines doc. @ John Tha...

@HSK
No, we both have our own individual Tier 1 visas. We both have 50% of shares each in the company.

What do you mean when you say 'who controls the company'?

Tier 1 extension query for Ltd company with 2 directors.

Hello, My wife and myself are primary Tier1 visa holders and are both into contracting and are directors of the same Ltd company. At the time of our Tier 1 extension, the documentary evidence required is payslips and dividend payout vouchers, which both of us will provide. But since both of us are o...

Passport expires 1 month before Tier 1 validity date.

Hello, My passport will come up for renewal just 1 month prior to my tier 1 validity date. I was originally thinking I will apply for a new passport in the embassy here and then submit both my old passport (with the Tier 1 visa vignette) and the new passport for the Tier 1 extension until I read thi...

Thanks Ken for that. I did decide to take up the contract and have completed a month now already. It's all ok so far, and I believe I have made the right choice. A few facts, 1. Among the other contractors I met in my team , there are 2 key senior resources who have been here on contract for the las...

@ kenfrapin Thanks again mate :) You probably missed this line, Now, that my extension worry is out of the picture in either case, My extension is secure now. Now my other goal is definitely stability, but it seems to come at a very expensive cost. My partner has banking, insurance and retain experi...

Making a Decision!

Hello friends, There is an update with my current circumstance. 1. The contract turned out to be for 12 months with a slight increase in rate. 2. I have indication that I have cleared my f2f for the permanent position based out of Edinburgh and hope to have offer details tomorrow, which includes rel...

Points to consider before choosing an umbrella company ?

Hello, I google'd and there are 100's of best umbrella companies to choose from. I did some reading and came across terms such as IR35, different tax codes etc, didn't make much out of it. How do I choose which one is simple, hassle free and good to use ? What are the points I should consider or que...

Did you notice that you have used that 4 times in your previous posts in this page. You must be an accounts manager pitching for bringing in new clients to your employer :)

Delay on start date after signing contract, options ?

Hello, I am posting this on behalf of a friend. She was offered a 3 month contract by a leading bank based out of Edinburgh. She was represented by her agent to a leading services company who in-turn represented her to the bank(the end client). About 2 weeks back agent confirmed verbally that she ha...

@mulderpf I am more inclined toward permanent, however I will know my situation soon and should have more information with regard to the role and nature of work etc. Just wanted to make sure I was doing my calculations correct (approximately close). I take it from your post that it is correct :) Tha...

@mulderpf Like I said earlier, my intention was not to equate them. I agree a contracting house is entirely different from a umbrella company. My only point was that it was not fair of companies (read contracting houses) not considering a person for permanent employment just because he has contracte...

Thanks kenfrapin and mulderpf for that. @mulderpf: It's scary to note that some companies really don't consider you if have done contract work in the past. @kenfrapin: Agree that consulting is different, and enticing especially with well known brand names with a guaranteed career growth plan etc. Le...

Thanks mulderpf and aani for taking the time to read and providing your valuable inputs. It does seem like a permanent position is safer and a better bet. I was wondering if I was correct in assuming the NET calculation in contract roles, were as below. For example, if the rate is at GBP 33 / hour. ...

Thanks Kenfrapin for taking time to read and respond with a detailed reply. Although the agent mentions that there is all likeliness that the contract can be extended for another 6 months, there is no guarantee.

Ok, will weigh my options before deciding.

Also note that contracting dramatically reduces your chances of permanent employment, its a killer. Employers dont prefer recruiting contractors as they know you will vanish at the next big contract that comes along. [/i] Is this true ? I thought big consultancies like Accenture, Cognizant, do exac...

Secured a contract role, suggestions required.

Hello friends, I have been offered a contract position for 6 months based out of London. I have also cleared telephone round for a permanent position based out of Edinburgh, the f2f is being scheduled. The contract role pays about 25% more than the permanent position, but this will be levelled, cons...
