I believe the concern re NRI fees for colleges is not too valid. with more and more mixed marriages children are resident in India with many different passports and pay local fees in schools and colleges . You could try hanging on to see if India ever gets its act together for Dual citizensship , o...

Re: ILR + Indian citizenship or British Citrizenship

Hi Forurm, I will be qualifying for ILR in the UK very soon, and subsequently will be eligible to apply for British citizenship. Now I am in a huge dilemma about whether I should just continue with my ILR status, or register as a British citizen. Here are some key facts about my situation: 1) I may...

I think with OCI, your children will still need to get NRI seats which is too expensive. So not a perfect solution if you are thinking of your kid to be a Doctor. :-) I am not fully convinced about this NRI thing being ‘expensive’. NRI quota is a special quota that can be used by rich NRIs to get t...

For me, applying for citizenship is more than just getting the passport. It's to integrate within the society you live and want to be part of in future. Although I'm not naive and I do realise that many non EU nationals might be more concerned about visa free travel. For the countries you listed (U...

Queries on advantages of British Citizenship

Hi, I am and Indian national currently on ILR and will be due for BC in a little less than a year’s time. I am still in two minds about whether I should go ahead and take up British citizenship or stay at my current status of ILR. I am trying to assess the pros and cons of acquiring British citizens...

Solihull PEO did exactly opposite to what they have done in this particular case.

Re: Child Benefit Application – Timelines

I recently applied for child benefit for my 2 children (about 10 days back) on the 24th Jan 2012. I was wondering if someone can share the timeline by which they return the important documents like birth certificates. I tried calling them, but their automated service says they can’t provide updates...

Given the benefit tapers away once income is past a certain point, and because people's circumstances are different, I do not think that it is possible to come up with a precise answer to your question. However I am not at all surprised by the figures you mention. Thanks again John. That answers my...

I suggest that you go to this HMRC webpage , where you will see a link to their Tax Credits calculator. If you use that you will have a good idea how much you and your wife might get. Thanks very much John. That was really very helpful. I did use the calculator, and it appears anyone earning more t...

Need info on Child Tax Credit please

Hi, I have recently received ILR status, and have already applied for Child Benefit for my 2 children. My question is what is the criteria for claiming child tax credits? What is the threshold annual earning beyond which child tax credits are not allowed? How is the child tax credit calculated? Trie...

Re: ILR success at Solihull PEO (from Tier 1 G)

Hi friends.. Thanks for all the support from this forum. I got my ILR yesterday from Solihull PEO. My eligiblity was based on 2 years HSMP (post nov 2006) and 3 years Tier 1 Gen. I was applying for myself plus 1 dependant. My appointment time was 9.30 am and arrived there at 9 am. There are a coupl...

Hi, I would be very grateful if someone who has actually paid by personal cheque at the Solihull PEO share his experience. The set(O) form seems to have a very clear section for putting cheque details, so why do people not use this easy option. I am worried as I fear that my bank will block the £33...

I don’t think so you can pay by a normal personal cheque. It has to be a banker’s draft. You can also pay by debit or credit card, but you need to inform your bank a night before (and also on the morning of appointment to be on the safe side) that you are going to make a large transaction. Hi, I wo...

There shouldn’t be an issue in using any bank’s credit or debit card. Just make sure you have enough money in your bank and inform your bank about the large transaction. I am in a similar position. When I called up Lloyds TSB to inform them about the transaction (I am going to pay approx £3350 as I...

Payment by cheque at PEO

I am applying for ILR at Solihull PEO next week. My current immigration status is Tier-1. The Set(O) form mentions that we can also pay by cheque. Has anyone ever paid by a normal bank cheque? My amount is quite large - £3375, as I have 3 dependants as well. That makes me a bit nervous about paying ...

common sense. if it says not mandatory then its not. The wordings in the appointment confirmation are 'bring all the dependants registered in your application with you to this appointment'. No mention of mandatory or not. I am still in 2 minds whether to take my young kids or not. Hi imranb, Its si...

Even I am interested in knowng if it is alright not to take dependants with me. I have 2 kids, aged 5 and 2. The kids will surely get bored and cranky at the PEO. Requesting people to please advice.
