Do they have to contact any authorities in the country of origin? If so, maybe it's the language translation that slows everything down. Don't really know, just speculating here

Does anybody know or heard of someone that had actually been unsuccessful in their citizenship application?

I am not sure if there is a method in this madness, some of us really have to wait such a long time.
