Re: Employment record as a full time PhD student?

I was in UK since 1997 as a child (my mother claimed asylum). In 2004 I and my mother were granted ILR due to a government amnesty. I received this via a letter from Home Office. Together with ILR, I received a SEPARATE letter stating my NI number. These documents are separate, of course - I just m...

Re: ILR held for verification checks

Sorry but My question was not regarding the rational behind the verification etc. I have not read a lot of posts but I have come across a couple at least. They both said that HO did their verification on the same day and refused/granted the ILR. I thought they had the data available to them to veri...

Re: Employment record as a full time PhD student?

Perhaps because I received my NI number on a letter when I obtained my ILR back in 2004, and they haven't updated the records? (This letter is the only written document I ever had that states my NI number). Am slightly confused by this underlined statement, or it may be I'm misreading what you atte...

Re: Employment record as a full time PhD student?

Do I have to state NI contributions on my application? As far as I've seen its not required to be stated on the form. But if you read the AN form guidance (& if not Id suggest that you do so) you'll see it says you must provide details of all your NI contributions made for your current and previous...

Re: ILR held for verification checks

If you search this forum, you'll find endless experiences similar to your own. It's almost standard practice now for applicants with current or past self-employment that the HO will conduct independent verification checks with HMRC. This has mainly come about as a result of abuse of the system by th...

Re: Can a sponsor withdraw to stop your immigration?

I have a 5 year UK visa (multi entry) and recently lost contact with the original visa sponsor (general tourist). I am a bit worried that he could have withdrawn sponsorship and I need to travel urgently next week to UK. Can the sponsor stop me from coming somehow ? What type of sponsorship was the...

Re: Long Residence ILR - Continuity broken?

I have been also advice by a immigration adviser that counting of 28 day period start form date of AR decision maintained and not 2 working / calendar days after date of decision. If you take a look through page 22 in the linked guidance above, this is what it states.... Point 2 appears to be what'...

Re: British ceremony and travel

May I ask a follow-up question, for clarity? The BRP needs to be returned within 5 days of attendance of the citizenship ceremony or receipt of a certificate of citizenship. I am assuming that these are NOT the same things as the letter of acceptance. Not entirely sure what you mean by letter of ac...

Re: Employment record as a full time PhD student?

As you have a NI number, just a suggestion to verify if you have a HMRC NI contribution history over the last 10 years, even if you paid no taxes. You should be able to do this by registering online for a personal tax account using your NI number. You can then see if you have any NI contributions lo...

Re: British ceremony and travel

thanks for your response, what is JCAPS? i applied for passports when i applied for citizenship at NCS... JCAP refers to joint citizenship and passport scheme. As you've applied for both citizenship and passport at the same time through a Council NCS, you would have applied through that. The commen...

Thanks, she has now enrolled her biometrics at the post office. What does she need to do now. Does she need to send the home office the receipt they gave her at the post office and the letter that now has a sticker on it? How is the biometrics sent to the home office? Is it sent electronically or d...

Hi all, As I need to gather evidence and need some time. The deadline to reply HO is tomorrow. Is it OK if I send a letter today to HO requesting some more time ? Is it normal ? Re: ILR re-entry into UK for wife

As far as my husband was concerned they asked basic questions...how did he get his ILR, where does he work, live etc. On the first occasion soon after being granted ILR they kept him waiting while they checked the validity of his visa on the system. That's not too bad, although to meet the new rule...

Re: Citizenship Refused - Was I staying unlawful?

Different ways to argue that. It could be argued that overstay of less than 28 days is ignored only for the purposes of applications under the Immigration Rules and not for applications made under any other law. I think the point that the OP was considering was the following under the nationality g...

You don't need to ask for proof, they will give you the HO sheet with barcode, and a sticker will be affixed to it with barcode reference, amount paid and the date/time.

Re: Wrong Nationality on Electoral Roll

Guessing the online system does not force user selection of nationality. Will probably give the council a call to advise them of nationality even though I've always been eligible to vote, before naturalisation. When you register online you have to select your nationality from a drop-down menu! If y...

Only thing I was worried about is that the letter lists the documents we sent with the application but it doesn't list the English Test and the Life in the UK test or th...

Re: Wrong Nationality on Electoral Roll

Looking at the form I've just received this month, it does appear I am mistaken - I.e. it's not listed as optional anymore - even though it's actually left as blank in my case. In recent years I've just confirmed my details online (not using the paper form), since I've lived at the same address for ...

How long has it been since you submitted your application? Agree that the status doesn't give away much, it could be either that it's in a queue or being processed. But with that wording I'm more included to believe that it's being processed, or at least they are doing the necessary background check...

Also, having applied for settlement in less than 28 days after withdrawal of the appeal, and the application been subsequently granted, wouldnt call for discretion to be applied according to pragraph 8.10 of the staff guidance --> https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data...
