Re: British Citizen Certificate Details

Yes, you need the certificate to apply for a passport, and you need to send your certificate back to Home Office AFTER you have had your ceremony. When you get your ceremony, you’ll receive an envelope with an information booklet in it, which will let you know what to do.

Re: Text from HMPO

During peak periods, there can sometimes be delay before documents are opened and acknowledged by HMPO. So not having received the text message yet is normal, even if it's not pleasant.

Re: I got approval for citizenship

Congrats on your citizenship being granted. No, you don't have to return your card. Whilst the PR Card is a biometric card, it's not a BRP (that's for Indefinite Leave to Remain). You can find more info in a previous thread here: https://www.immigrationboards.com/british-citizenship/do-pr-card-needs...

Re: Applying for citizenship right after getting a permanent status?

Based on what you've described, there's no difference in how long it will take you through Settled Status or PR route. The only thing that can impact whether or not you need to wait an additional year after settled status or PR is if you're married to a British citizen.

Only if they are both allocated to the same processing centre. You’d also need to take care that supporting documents don’t get mixed up.

You are not required to say how long they’ve known you. There’s nothing more for you to do on that. You can breathe easy 😀

That means the period of overstay was not more than 28 days. It was several years in the case of your husband.

Re: Citizenship online application for US citizen - English language proof requested

That’s what I used to understand, which is why it’s strange that the online application doesn’t give you an opportunity to say you’re exempt based on nationality.

Re: Citizenship online application for US citizen - English language proof requested

It appears from current guidance on GOV.UK that an American citizen needs to demonstrate English language requirements for citizenship, even if it was not required for settlement: https://www.gov.uk/english-language/exemptions If you’re applying for citizenship There are no other exemptions if you’r...

Re: Citizenship online application for US citizen - English language proof requested

Strange because the sequence of questions on the online application will then be this:

Do you have a degree that was taught in English? No

Have you passed an approved English language test? No

Are you claiming an exemption from the English language test due to a medical or mental condition? No

Re: Royal Mail Lost the Expired Passports

The Met Police website also says this: I've lost an item somewhere: If you're not sure where you lost the item, try searching places you've been to recently and ask any nearby shops or cafes if they've had someone find it and leave it with them. For foreign passports, ID cards and driving licences, ...

Re: Royal Mail Lost the Expired Passports

According to the Home Office, you still have to report it to the police. I also know that Nigeria for instance will NOT issue a new passport without a Police Report number. The LS01 form you fill to inform the Identity and Passport Services at Home Office also asks for a police report number. Beside...

What do you mean by ‘didn’t get paper work fast’?

Can you also give your full immigration history? No one can give you a view without that?

Re: Royal Mail Lost the Expired Passports

Report it to the Royal Mail and UKVI to see if there's any chance of recovering it, and then report it to the Police, to get a Police Report for lost item if you can't recover the lost documents. HMPO will accept the police report in that instance, since you have your current passport, it won't be a...

You’re free to change your name as you wish. Make sure you get a name change deed for it. Also remember that if you will be applying for a British passport whilst keeping the passport of another country, both passports must be in the same name, so you may have to get a new passport of your current n...
