Re: Bad news for overstayers in latest hardening of British citizenship policy

Hi everyone , I don’t mean to hijack this good man thread but I have a quick question : are you considered an overstayer after marrying an eea national ? I’m asking because I’m planning to apply for BC soon but with the recent changes in good character , I’m not sure anymore if I start counting the...

Re: Good character refused birtish application

Unfortunately, since you came to the UK illegally, even as you were subsequently granted asylum, you have to wait until 10 continuous years of being legally present in the UK. So that will be 10 years from the date that your asylum took effect according to the court decision.

You will need to contact Home Office ASAP (tomorrow) and ask them if you can reset your application date, having submitted in error.

Re: ** online application for Application for naturalisation **

Congrats on your naturalisation. HMPO can still invite you for a passport interview, however, most people who apply for a first passport within 1 year of naturalisation don't get invited for an interview. Also, it's worth mentioning that in the future, you should not mention online that you hold a s...

Re: Citizenship ceremony scheduling process

can one change the council after approval of naturalisation, to a council that might offer a nearer ceremony, or is it not possible? Yes. I was told to expect a change to take up to 6 weeks (can't say if that was accurate, or they were just looking to discourage the change). You'll need to contact ...

Re: Citizenship ceremony scheduling process

Some councils either don't hold ceremonies that often (because of demand) or ceremonies are overbooked, meaning yours is even later. How quickly you can have a private ceremony also depends on availability. My council can often do ceremonies within 48 hours, but Westminster for instance once told me...

Re: General Discussion During Naturalisation Application Process

Hi guys, my BC application is pending but I'm looking to travel for a good few weeks. How long is it "safe" to stay away in one go? Just a bit concerned if they request additional documents and I'm late to provide them... Any experience? If you're away longer than 2 weeks, it might be safe to ask s...

Re: How long did you have to wait to get a decision?

Thanks CR0001, what I meant is that the information HO checks may be more readily available when it comes to EU applicants. But tour response makes sense, thanks again. Home Office is not transparent about all the checks they make, and it doesn't appear that EU applicants are inherently any quicker...

Re: How long did you have to wait to get a decision?

Hi all, I completed my application on 11/04/19 and sent my documents via sopra steria last week (16/05) as they did not have an earlier appointment nearby. I know that HO states that it may take 6 months to get a response on your citizenship application, however I'm wondering what the real life exp...

Re: Travel documentation options (limbo between citizenship ceremony and British Passport)

Also there is no 'fast track' option when applying for a first British passport. Regarding timescale: "It should take around 6 weeks to get your first UK adult passport, but it can take longer " Did you submit your online application before you attended your citizenship ceremony :?: No. I'm not awa...

Travel documentation options (limbo between citizenship ceremony and British Passport)

What can one do in this scenario: You've just had your citizenship ceremony, but you now have to travel within 5 days (not enough time for your new British Passport to get back to you based on normal application timescales) and whilst you've applied for a passport online, you've not sent in your sup...

When you submit the application, you'll get something to take to each of your referees to sign and include along with your other supporting documents that you upload.

Citizenship Application Case ID vs Reference number

Has anyone who’s applied since the new application process was introduced and got both a case ID emailed to them after submission and a reference number from the decision been able to check to see if the numbers are related? I’ve seen a case ID start with 24, and I know the reference numbers start w...

Thanks for replying hermanthegerman. I was away indeed, if I waited just 2 days and submitted it just 2 days later, I would have been fine. Re: Missed English language requirement

CR001, are you sure the OP needs to do anything? My understanding is that having demonstrated language requirement via ILR recently (2018) the OP wouldn't be required to do so with citizenship, hence the question about whether English was demonstrated after 2013, which the OP correctly answered in t...

It sounds like you're at risk of overloading them with more information than they need. If they need something, they will ask you for it and you can email it to them. Mailing them is only valid IF you made a mistake that if you didn't correct would amount to deception. Too much information only make...

Yes, that's all normal. You don't get a separate notification for the appointment. And you will still have access for a long time. Don't use it or change anything on it after the appointment.

First, there are no refunds on applications submitted in the UK. Second, it might be worth checking that because you've now received citizenship, she can only go down the 3 year route. Third, how long was she away for? If it was days, I believe there've been instances where people have been able to ...

Home Office does not get physical documents when you use UKVCAS, so you will always have your documents with you, even if it's a free appointment. Documents are expected to be scanned and uploaded to the system by you ahead of the appointment.
