Does the professional referee have to be based in the UK?

The reason that I ask is that my brother, who wants to apply for citizenship, knows professionals from the list in our home country.
In the UK, he only knows a doctor who is a family friend, but it is not clear whether doctors can be referees.

Re: Can a doctor (not one's GP) who knows you personally be a referee?

Thank you so much for your replies. I see some old posts indicating that NHS doctors cannot give references? Our family friend is a retired NHS doctor and she has known us for 30 years, so wondering if we should put in a note somewhere to explain that in the application if possible? Write a coverin...

Re: Can a doctor (not one's GP) who knows you personally be a referee?

Thank you. I've found some posts suggesting that employment is needed at the time of application, that's why I wondered. Same thing regarding doctors as people give mixed advice regarding this. Is there place on the form to explain that the doctor has known us personally for decades?

Can a doctor (not one's GP) who knows you personally be a referee?

Hello, I had written about my brother's disability here and that he got ILR a few years ago. He can't work due to his illness, but from what I understand, not being able to work is not grounds for refusal of citizenship? We are trying to help him with his application but there is a problem regarding...

Assisting disabled family member: eligibility for benefits on ILR?

My brother has been seriously ill and became disabled as a result of his illness. He got ILR though and because his illness is stopping him from returning to work, is he eligible to go on universal credit? If he does apply, does that bar him from applying for citizenship in the future? He is current...

If you give evidence on the reasons for your absences, then I think you should be okay. If your absences makes them doubt your future intentions requirement, then include more evidence on this requirement to assure them.

They may revoke ILR only under limited circumstances.
Thank you!

The British Nationality Act is the law, not Guidance. The Guidance gives possible discretions for caseworkers. I don’t see that discretion on absences may be more stricter than the law given in Schedule 1.

Thank you Vinny. In case my application fails, am I risking my ILR in any way?

Re: Absences in the final year and 5 years preceding the application

Do let us know his response. He said that it's only for guidance but the caseworker can use discretion and in a case like mine, where nearly 300 days were spent outside the country without returning at all (even though the 450-day requirement is met), the caseworker can use discretion and reject th...

Re: Absences in the final year and 5 years preceding the application

Thank you. He said that my long absence can be used to deny Citizenship because the Govt is making no exceptions even if there are circumstances beyond your control. Have sent the quoted text from your post to him!

Re: Absences in the final year and 5 years preceding the application

Thank you. A lawyer I consulted said that the 90-year rule applies to every year for the last 5 years. I couldn't find any basis for this in the guidance, hence the confusion over the absences.

Also, I am a director of my company but only pay myself when I need to.
Do I have to show regular income for naturalisation? And do the referees have to be British?

Absences in the final year and 5 years preceding the application

I have been in the UK since February. Before that, I was stuck in my home country for 298 days due to flights being cancelled and leaving the country being impossible.
Now my problem is, do I have to wait for 5 years from February to apply since I have a gap of 298 days?

Thank you in advance.

And now the stress will likely be even more on residence (actually staying in the country for a while and leaving a trace with government documentation such as by working/taxes and/or applying for benefits) as opposed to mere presence (flying in and out, and possibly behaving like a visitor). The p...

Does a longer waiting period mean you're likely to be rejected- Schengen

I've been granted a Schengen visa several times before. Usually it was pretty quick and once took a little longer. This time though it's taking forever. I applied for Netherlands this time. They are sent to Netherlands for processing and not processed in the London consulate. People applying after m...

What is the breakdown in terms of months for the roles that you have used? Hopefully you'll hear back before April 2019, but do you think you could employ settled people in a couple of roles for which you already employed people previously? The roles have to be 12 months but not necessarily continuo...

Very sad to hear about this.

If you list out your refusal reasons here, members might be able to help regarding points that you could make for your AR.

I hope you are going for AR, and refer to the transcript that confirms that tenancy was never discussed.
It's bizarre that they just copied the same letter here again, except the above point.
