It varies from country to country , some put cancelled stamp, some put expiry stamp, som cut the corner in case of British passport.
But in all cases you can’t use that passport for travel.

It clearly says un cancelled passports, so yours expired already and it’s not valid so no need to send it.

And moreover AN applications required more checks as compared to MN1 applications, so if AN applications are being decided in 3 months Iam hoping MN1 applications will be more quicker .

And as for as I know , as long as their dependant visa is valid they can travel, you can apply earlier for them on the form FLR (M) if you want to but it's not compulsory, one of my friend did this and he has no problem on airport as his wife dependant visa was valid !!!!!!!!
