Read this BBC story today: Unintended consequences

But read the last part carefully. This married woman wouldn't be on a plane back to Canada today if the UKBA didn't lose her photos. She'd have been able to get married in time and before the new rules applied.

diamond22, that they did not mention your Australian refusal - and your silence on the matter - is not an indication that they did not know about it. I don't even know if visa applicants like you can put in an FoI Act SAR to get the full picture. But it's very worrying when details are being shared ...

If the latter was incorrect, I would be inclined to ask for it to be amended, because you never know when it might be important. In the first instance he should contact the Border Control office that dealt with him, and ask to speak to the Duty Chief Immigration Officer. Apart from anything else, i...

Actually, you can apply from within the UK. However, that only applies if her situation changed significantly etc. If she entered the country on a vistor visa intending to apply for ILR while here then she'll automatically be refused (and probably won't ever get a visitor visa again). If you put in ...

Your categories are different from theirs. In their attempt to cross-reference documents to catch you out on some claim or to undermind your application, they'll reorganise and reorganise the docs. They are playing detective. I'd not bother with any sorting. Just give it to them in one big mixed up ...

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm sorry to say that her application was turned down. I'm hoping you can help me again. You overestimate the HO's common sense. Prevention is better than cure in the real world, not for the HO. They'll let it slip into JR and if you win damages they won't pay. You'll have to chase and chase and chase but don't be too sure of getting the money.

Apart from property you should show other commitments - like siblings, friends, organisations they belong to etc. Anything that shows reaso...

do solicitors mention their name on the application? how would the home office know that I am "that" serious to even get a lawyer? I've experienced getting several family visitor visas, getting rejected, going to appeal and the IAT (multiple times) and dealing with the intransience of the visa officials. My experience has been that they don't even implement IAT judges' rulings unless you twist their arms. Their #1 job is to fin...

ginoT, all the best. They need - we all need - someone to take them on sometimes to demonstrate how ridiculous they can be. You are right about the research required. I'll go further: Even if you have a good solicitor it's still up to you to do a lot of research and push your solicitor in the right ...
