Re: Citizenship delays: FOI and an application for an Order for Mandamus via the High Courts

Thanks for all the details! I just submitted my FOI request. This is ridiculous and I'm sick of putting my life on hold or not being able to visit family for a few months.

Re: Pending decisions/approvals on applications from 16-17

@fuzzbizz I guess the fact that you CAN work in the UK should be of no importance to you or any other applicant since, in our application we all have clearly stated that we intend to live in the Republic of Ireland in the future? I can intend to reside in Ireland in completely good faith but still ...

Re: Pending decisions/approvals on applications from 16-17

Reasons? Firstly, the EU applicants do not benefit from holding an Irish passport, except for the right to vote in Ireland. We can travel and work freely within the EU anyway. ... By the way, nothing is stopping you from giving back and participating in the community without an Irish passport. Agai...

The day you sign your name on the form. So, at the latest, the day you post it.

It should only take a day or two to get there, anyway, if you're in Ireland.

Whoa - where do you see that? I took it to mean: Alice and Bob are citizens of Canada Alice and Bob have been married for 10 years. They've lived in Ireland for 5 years. Alice gets naturalized. Alice is now an Irish citizen. Bob has now been married to Alice, who is an Irish citizen, for 10 years. B...

That's interesting, the (two) people I've known who were able to comment said being a spouse of an Irish citizen was much faster.

Re: Working Holiday Visa change- help!

For what it's worth, I took a similar path. You'll need to leave the country and have them apply for a general permit or critical skills permit. You will, of course, be at the mercy of the company (if they change their mind you're just stuck) so I hope you trust them!

Re: Belfast Ferryport Immigration Check

I haven't taken that ferry, but it would be odd given that Belfast and Britain are part of the same nation.

Going to Northern Ireland, part of the UK, without a visa, was probably against the law, though of course I am not a lawyer.

Enjoy the ceremony but do keep in mind a mask is more benefit to stop you infecting others than it is to yourself. It does, at least, help stop you touching your face with your hands. The mortality rate is highly correlated with age so if you are older or are in contact with older people you really ...

Re: non EU Parent of Irish Born Child 3 out 4 Years Clause

Whether your absences constitute a break in residence might be a question for a solicitor. I know that when I applied for my kids' passports it didn't even come up as a question (unlike naturalization) but best to talk to a professional than take advice from a stranger on the internet.

Re: Help with clarification of citizenship via descent.

I don't think you need to have been born after the FBR was created to register on the FBR, though I am by no means an expert! For instance, some people at the US embassy a few months ago were getting a Consular Report of Birth Abroad for their teenage kid, and I thought it was a similar sort of thing.

Re: Help with clarification of citizenship via descent.

It can be assumed that "born in the UK" means "born in Britain" and not Northern Ireland, right? The tool at https://www.irishimmigration.ie/citizenship/check-if-you-are-an-irish-citizen-by-birth-or-descent/ should sort it out, but without an FBR entry might not pan out. Of course, if you're British...

I wish you luck but questions like this usually get shot down by the mods. I can, however, tell you that I went to three solicitors in Dublin city centre and the only good one was, of course, the most expensive.

Apply now based on 5 year or wait for spouse naturalization and do 3 year?

My wife and I have both been in Ireland over 5 years. I applied for naturalization last March and am hoping to be naturalized soon (but who knows when it will really happen). Are naturalizations for spouses based on 3 years' residence usually handled faster? Not sure if we should just apply now or w...

Re: IRISH PASSPORT FOR BABY, PARENT IS STAMP 4

I'm doing this right now - it's about a month but I'm using passport express and indicated no rush.

Assuming you have clear documentation of being here legally for 3 years prior to birth you should be fine even if you apply after travel I imagine (though you need at least one passport for the child)
