Looking at the 'time and date' link I have provided, you could apply by post or in person for ILR on the last or second to last date of your visa validity as this is within the 28 days before reaching 5 years residence.

This has nothing to do with applying for Citizenship. It has everything to do with PR, which you already have and yes, you were under the transitional provisions.

Regardless of who paid the application fee, your wife is required to attend the appointment with you, or provide a letter explaining the reason for her absence. What about our two children. It isn't just about working in the UK. It is about residing and paying tax and having evidence to prove this etc. Any absence of 180 days or more also breaks your continuity of residence in the UK. User secret.simon is very good with such queries, suggest wait for him to advise. It also depends on the date of your fathers birth etc. so you will likely need to supply a bit more information in terms of dates etc.
