Can I claim for this under a work permit status?

vinny, Now, I know why! The requirement that you should be in the UK 5 years before when HO received the application, is for citizenship and not for ILR! From BIA website: Residential requirements To demonstrate the residential requirements for naturalisation you need to: have been resident in the U...

I am getting confused with this 28 days. Please tell me what is wrong with my analysis. Suppose my 5-yr work visa starts on April 1, 2008. So it expires on April 1, 2013. If I enter the UK on April 15, 2008, I will only be in the UK for 5 years on April 15, 2013, but my visa would have expired by th...

28 days before you complete 5 years, you can already apply for ILR. So I think, you will have no problem with the 10 days. (senior members, pls correct me if I'm wrong.) Tier 2 replaces the work permit category but your visa until 2009 will still be valid. If it happens that the 10 days will give yo...

Yes, I understand that rules have been changing. But I can't project what they will be because honestly, anything can happen (good or bad for me). I do have a PR application with Canada but have decided to pursue the opportunity with UK instead because I have work in UK while in Canada, it will take...

Do I have to enter the UK within 28 days from my work visa start date to be eligible to apply for permanent residence (or probationary citizenship) after 5 years?

If I'm not mistaken, time under student visa is not counted towards ILR. So you only start counting from the time you have a visa that counts towards ILR eg work permit or HSMP.

My guess here is that you are enjoying discounted B&B rates through the council which may constitute as public funds. I could be wrong though. this question is also a kind of predicament i am in atm, my wife is denied public funds but council have us in a bed and breakfast but she has to pay £10 pe...

Re: public funds

Because it is possible to claim for benefits although not eligible (I know it sounds strange). But when you apply for ILR and they realize you have claimed for such, that is a ground for refusal. So isnt the very fact that he is not eligible for these benifits enough to prove that he wont be having ...

Your intention is to be together in the UK. In fact, you already lived together in Singapore. So why not file for an unmarried partner visa? This is doing it the right way instead of trying to convince HO that she just wants to study English even though it's not true.

After 5 years, do I just need to pass the Life in the UK test and meet the English language requiremen...

I understand your resentments but I would like to know if I don't have to apply for an FLR to become a proby citizen. All I have to do is pass the Life in the UK test after 5 years under WP.

Probationary citizenship

If the green paper pushes through, after 5 years of temporary residence, do you have to extend your current visa status for 1 more year? Or is it another visa type and you only need to pass the Life in the UK test and meet the English requirement to become a probationary citizen?

I've been reading from some posts in this forum about extending the ILR residency requirement to 7 years. Is this just another rumor? Has anyone read something about this from official websites?
