Seems like no parent/partner visa, what other options?

Post by just_us » Wed Mar 26, 2025 9:37 am

Fist of all hello as I'm new to this board

I think it is easier if I quickly tell you about my situation and then to see if any of you may have an idea.

I'm British myself, but i have a girlfriend who lives in Germany.
Now as life plays on my first visit, unexpected and unplanned and even with contraception she did get pregnant and we decided after long thinking to keep the child.
I need to stay in England and therefore would like her to move over here, so that we can raise the child together.

If i understood it right, we can't go the partner route as we aren't together for two years and if she would go the partner route, she can't be with me.
We know the fiancé route would be possible, but we don't want to rush this or force it either.

So my question is, is there any other option for her to receive an visa? Surely not everyone is together for 2 years or are split up if they have a child?

Thanks for any help or suggestions

You have reviewed the UKVI family visa webpages: https://www.gov.uk/uk-family-visa ?

The UK immigration system doesn't have visa options for "getting to know" scenarios.

Is your girlfriend an EU citizen?
In that case "visa-free" visits for up to 6 months are possible. "Visa free" visits are still subject to visitor visa rules, i.e. no work, no "residing" through repeated visa-free visits, no recourse to public funds, leave after the six months, etc.

If girlfriend is a non-EU citizen then needs to formally apply for visitor visa. UKVI will want to see evidence that she will return after visa expires. https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Hi, thanks for the reply,

I have reviewed the family visa page and but haven't found a way yet where she would be able to stay and with the right to work etc., which would explain why we don't want to go down the visitor visa route.

Yes, she is a EU citizen.
