Send Application on March 27th - too late?

Post by El_Pirate » Fri Feb 11, 2011 11:47 pm

Hello,

I'm applying for a Post-Study Work Visa from abroad and the earliest date that I will have met the maintenance requirement of having enough money in the bank for 3 months is March 27th. It is in a joint account with one of my parents.

I've heard that the system will be shutting down and undergoing review in April.

If I send my PSW application on March 27th using the fastest mailing possible, it will surely arrive to the UK before April 1st.

Is it possible that I will run into any troubles? Will the UK still process my application?

Also, I am wondering if there are any issues with using a joint bank account held between one of my parents and myself? On the UKBA website it says that joint accounts are fine as long as they have the applicant's name on them and don't dip below the amount for over 3 months.

That was just bad wording in my post. I'm not sending it to the UK. It will be sent to Chicago to be processed. I'm just concerned about whether or not it will be processed in time.

here in uk(in-country applicants) if application is sent by "royal mail". the date of postage is what matters. so if i send my app via royal mail on 27th march, then my app would be judged based on the rules applicable on 27th march.

if i send it via courier service, then the date it is received at ukba office is the date that matters.

find out what sort of criteria is applicable in your country and act accordingly.

hope my reply was useful

cheers

ps. joint a/c should not be a problem as your name is mentioned on the account.

your name was there 3 months ago too....right?

Thanks for the reply and advice!

I think I will call the application center in Chicago and see if they also accept it based on the date of postage for US mail.

The joint account will have had my name on it for 3 months, so I'm glad to hear that it won't be an issue.

Please let me know what they say. I am in the same boat as you but I am applying March 16th.

I know for us in the USA, the date of our application is the day we pay the fee when we apply online. That is the date they have to use when processing the applications. So, that being said, I have stopped stressing about it as much as I was. There will be an announcement sometime, the word has it, in mid-March. I highly doubt they're going to say 'effective today, we are accepting no more PSW applications from abroad or within the UK'. Most likely they'll say that - again this is the word on the street - changes will be in effect as of April. I actually had a solicitor tell me the date of April 5th (not sure how she got that date). So, if things go this way, then you'll be fine. The only thing that could stop us is if they make an announcement very early, like in a week or so, and say 'no more applications for out of country applicants', but I really hope and honestly don't think they'll do it that quick. Even if they did announce sooner, again, I have it on record from 3 registered reps/solicitors in London that nothing is going to change before April.

So, all that being said. Just wait it out. I know it sucks. I am very anxious to get back over there. But I think we will be ok. When you apply, buy the expedite processing service for an extra 150 bucks. You'll get the result of the application within 48 hours. Make sure all your papers are in order. You should be ok.
