Is a seperate dependant visa application necessary?

Post by doconnor » Tue Oct 25, 2011 10:45 am

Hi,

I have applied for a Tier 2 general work visa for the UK. My wife and family are all traveling at the same time to the UK.

Does my wife need to make a separate visa application to enable her to work in the UK?

Thanks,

Damien

1. Did your wife apply for entry clearance (visa) as dependant of a Tier 2 / PBS migrant? And has it been approved?
2. Is your wife a medical doctor / dentist?

1. So far, my wife has not applied for anything. Only I have applied for a tier 2 visa.

One thing I should mention is that we are all Australian and so we dont need to apply for tourist visas for the uk.

2. she is not a medical doctor or a dentist. she works as an IT project manager, as i do.

1. If your spouse and child(ren) want to live with you in the UK then they need to apply for entry clearance as dependant(s) of a Tier 2 migrant.
2. Once the application is approved and they are granted entry clearance, they may enter UK to live with you in the UK and your wife can work in the UK without any restrictions on her employment.

thanks Sushdmehta,

This answers my question. My wife will need to apply seperately. It probably makes sense to to this once my work visa is approved.

Hi sushdmehta, what if the wife is dentist...what procedure does she has to follow to start working as a dentist?

The (entry clearance application) process is the same ..... but a medical doctor / dentist may have restrictions on his / her employment in the UK (319D(iii)).
