i'm a US citizen and my wife is British. We were married in the US this past july, but have been living together for over 5 years and hope to move to the UK in january or february if all goes well. neither of us are that worried about the application, but i do have a few concerns regarding our financial situation and if this will affect our application for a settlement visa.
this situation is this. we've been running a language school here for the past five years or so. over the summer for various reasons, the school was put into liquidation and now is all but closed except for the final paperwork to do so. we sold the 'goodwill' of the business to another school in the city and were planning to work for this current academic year and then go to the uk over the summer. this all went pear-shaped due to the economy here and we are now unemployed. despite owning a company, we are essentially poor, out-of-work teachers currently, though we both fully intend to work in the UK.
i am technically not unemployed as I was appointed the liquidator of the company in question, but am not receiving a salary. my wife is unemployed. will this status significantly affect our application? we can both show our past income statements, savings, etc. also, would me having lived and worked legally in another EU country for the past few years strengthen the application?
thanks.
