Settlement visa for wife -Accomodation

Post by rajguru090 » Thu May 06, 2010 8:22 pm

Hi

I got my ILR in June 2009 and got married later Dec 2009. I plan to apply for a settlement visa for my wife in a month or two, and have a question about the accomodation.

I live with a friend and pay him a monthly rent of £ 450. Its a two bedroom house in which he lives with his wife and I use the second bedroom. The problem is that I do not have any proof i.e., rent receipts or rental agreement so far.

Does it suffice if we make a formal rental agreement, and then add my name to the Electricity or Water bill (so that my name is on a utility bill) ??
Do I also need documents like his deeds, mortgage payment record too! or are they not relevant for my wifes visa application ?

please advise.
thanks in advance
R

Sharing with friends is unlikely to help you. It will be more of a hindernace. The ECO is reluctant to accept such agreements wherby you share with friends without signing a legal agreement ( tennancy agreement)which gives you rights and protection in th event you fall out with your friends and he wants you to leave the property.

A rental agreement is not a binding document. Only an assured shorthold tennancy agreement is.

Its very unlikely your friend will do this, as he will have to make major changes to peoperty and will have to declare income to HM Tax office etc
