I didn't find this specific question in the archives, so I am hopeful one of you good folks may be able to clarify some things for me.
I am filling in the form AN for my wife to get naturalisation. Most of it seems pretty straightforward, but I have three queries.
In section three entitled "Good Character Requirement": It asks for occupation, employer and tax office details. In the guidance notes, it suggests one must prove no tax liability with some document from ones local tax office?
My wife is a housewife and mother and does not work. Thus she pays no tax or national insurance; she has never had any dealings with the tax office. Is it acceptable to write "housewife" under occupation and "N/A" in sections 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5 in this instance? If so, should the reasons be noted in the extra information section?
In section two entitled "Residence Requirements": It asks for a list of dates in and out of the country. Her passport looks like Alan Whicker's might; it is bristling with stamps. We have put together a list, based on legible stamps that tie in with her entry stamps back into Blighty again. However, a couple of the exit dates may be off by a day or two due to missing or illegible stamps. (She was not stamped on entering France via the Channel Tunnel one time for example - her passport is red too, they just waved us through without looking at them)
Her total days out as per our calculations are only 147, so she is not near the threshold of 300 in three years. My question is, must this information be perfectly accurate? Or will "close enough" as described above suffice?
Referees: Must both be professionals or just one? I was going to use my lawyer (not connected with the application) and a family friend who doesn't work; another housewife. Both UK passport holders. My reading of the rules suggests this is OK. Can anyone confirm that?
I am just a tad wary about the application being rejected on a technicality and the bureaurats trousering our £700+ quid.
