[T4 to T2G in country application] Sharing my experience

Post by yls722 » Sat Sep 13, 2014 8:22 pm

Because I felt like I have learned so much using this forum (especially from replies from guru such as @manci), I'd like to share my experience and hopefully will be able to provide some information to anyone under the similar situation that I was in.

Summary:
I graduated in July in UK, my student visa expires end of December.
Went for normal application which costs £601 (luckily I decided not to go for priority service and saved myself £400!)
COS issued on 18th of August
Applied online on 18th of August
Posted my application via special delivery (about £7 or 8 at the post office) on 19th (maybe 20th, can't remember)
First Acknowledgement letter AND Biometric enrollment letter received about 1 week after posting application.
Second letter (see below) received 4th of September
Biometrics enrolled on 6th of September, paid £19.20 for this service at the post office
Passport, documents and decision letter (saying application has been approve) ALL arrived in one envelope on 12th of September
DX attempted to deliver my BRP 12th of September (as stated on the DX delivery card)

Notes about enrolling biometrics at the post office:

The post office I originally went to couldn't scan my bar code, so I requested another letter from HO (although it takes forever for them to pick up your call, they will eventually. Best is to call at 9am sharp) Turns out to be the branch I went to isn't listed for HO Biometric enrollment but I only found out the second time I went (Please double check on http://www.postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder)

SOC and salary
I think the biggest challenge is definitely getting the SOC code right with the appropriate salary. So PLEASE check that you have the RIGHT SALARY FOR THE RIGHT SOC CODE. (I was stressing so much at this)

My Job title is Development Chemist (code 2111), and the appropriate salary for new entrant is £21k (for 39hrs/ week)
I was offered £20.5K, but my working hours are 37.5/week. So when this is calculated based on 39hrs/week, my salary is actually just slightly above the threshold.

Documents sent: (should be everything listed below, couldn't remember exactly as this was a month ago)
1 X Qualification Award certificate
1 X official Diploma Supplement from Uni * (might not need it but I sent mine anyway)
1 X letter (academic reference) from my Uni stating I am a graduate (might not be required)
1 X Official Bank statement covering 90 days in total * (I used a joint saving account of mine, covering May-August)
1 X Application cover (printed when I submit my application online)
2 X passport photos
1 X current passport (with valid Tier 4 visa)
1 X old passport

As I am SWITCHING from TIER 4, RLMT wasn't required, and unrestricted COS was issued.
I DID NOT send my online application as this was stated on in when I print them off.

I think that's all about it really, although the whole process is quite stressful, (checklist here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... uments.pdf)
p/s: I DID NOT send my online application as this was stated on in when I print them off.

Not sure if it's relevant, but my application and documents were sent to Sheffield UK Visa and Immigration office as this is the nearest to me.

Hopefully someone will find this useful!
