Try-one, can I ask to which country's embassy or consulate you applied to for your Schengen visa?

It should be the case that the experience should be the same, irrespective of which country you apply to. The reality is very different.

No doubt you will get your British passport as soon as you can. After my wife and step-daughter got their British passports last June we celebrated by visiting five countries as our summer holiday, and of course no longer needed to worry about getting Schengen visas.

I can honestly say that the Spanish Embassy is the worst I have seen for Schengen. The Italian is not much better either. I thought our ECO's could be bad

The French Consulate in London has a good reputation as regards Schengen visas. Not only that, it is much more enlightened about receiving postal applications from those living in many counties away from the London area.

Living here in the West Midlands, when my wife and step-daughter only had their Thai passports and therefore needed Schengen visas to travel to Europe, we applied on two occasions by post to the French Consulate in London and received what I can only describe as excellent service.

Much more information available here :-

At the other end of the scale is Spain ... a terrible reputation.

Tell me about it John :? Every time my fiancee has to travel it always seems to be an early morning appointment which can't be changed, meaning setting off from Coventry at 4am on the coach (no car at the moment) to London. If they all accepted postal applications it would be so much easier!

The best visa so far has been for Canada. That was by post and received in under a week!

Why not just apply to France, given that they accept postal applications from the West Midlands?

If we are talking tourism here, just ensure that you holiday in France.

France is fine, but the other visas have been for business purposes so not so easy.
