single mum claiming benefits, settlement visa UK

Post by lovely312615 » Mon Aug 24, 2009 3:52 pm

Hi,

I'm a single mum and claiming Income Support. I'd like to marry my fiance from Pakistan and wanted the ceremony in Pakistan also. I've called the benefits office and asked how it will affect my benefits once we're married already. First she wasn't sure then checked. I was told I can still continue claiming benefits whilst he is still there in Pakistan as I will still be considered a single mum here. But it will affect only once he's here already and have some work.

First, I just like to confirm this also especially from those who were in exactly the same situation as me if it is true.

Second, I called the Home Office about my situation. Their first question was if I work. I said no but would like to work once my partner will be here already. Financially I'm not ready and my fiance knows that. But my fiance is confident that he can show that he can support himself without recourse to public funds. My friend is offering me some work if I move down her area. My fiance is guaranteed to have work also once he comes here to a family friend's business.

Do you think they'll deny it because I don't have work even if he can show he can support himself? His funds are from his family also because he doesn't work as they have a family business. I have no work at the moment. But I really like to work once we're together already. And he will work as well.

Third, he lives in Swat. Government just recently took over their place from the extremists. I just wonder if this will be a problem too. Will the home office be so strict with his settlement visa because he is from Swat?

I need help really. I'm confused.
