Skilled Worker ILR – qualifying period (vignette vs BRP date) & earliest application date check

Post by PremEhan » Fri May 01, 2026 12:07 pm

Hi all,

I would really appreciate some guidance on my ILR (SET(O)) eligibility and dates.

**My details:**

* Visa route: Skilled Worker
* Vignette “valid from” date: 26 June 2021
* UK entry date: 19 July 2021
* BRP issue date: 14 July 2021

**My understanding:**

* I believe my qualifying period starts from the vignette valid-from date (26 June 2021)
* So 5 years completes on: 26 June 2026
* Earliest ILR application (28 days before): 29 May 2026

**Questions:**

1. Can I safely use the vignette “valid from” date instead of the BRP issue date for ILR timing?
2. Is my earliest application date (29 May 2026) correct?
3. Are there any risks if the BRP date is later than the vignette date?

**Additional info:**

* I have not exceeded 180 days absence in any 12-month period
* I am currently employed with the same sponsor (can provide employer letter, payslips, etc.)
* I will meet Life in the UK and English requirements before applying

**Documents I plan to submit:**

* Passports (all) and BRP
* Absence/travel history
* Employer letter + payslips + bank statements
* Life in the UK test

Please let me know if my understanding is correct or if I’m missing anything important.

Thanks in advance!

1. Yes. The earliest document issued to you is your visa Vignette, so that is the earliest date your qualifying period started.

2. The date of application is irrelevant.

Read --> All you need to know about applying early, the application date, 28-day concession and more

3. For administrative reasons, an immigration document cannot be backdated. So any document issued has an issue date when it was printed/issued. This does NOT mean that your visa qualifying period necessarily started on that date too
