Skills Assessment - Policies seem dearly beloved

I am Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics) from India.

My degree is recognised as equivalent/comparable qualification in

UK
USA
Canada
NZ

but NOT in Australia.

I am an IT specialist and wish to move to Australia permanently.

Engineers Australia only recognises qualifications from Countries like UK, Ireland, etc.

Hence a CDR is required which is very subjective and slim chances of approval.

Also, Australian Computer Society seeks at least 6 years experience from Indian IT pros. The experience letters from all previous employers should in the format they want - almost impossible to acquire in many cases.

One may look at points calculator and feel migrating to Australia is very easy. But, the biggest hurdle is skills assessment.

All this, one feels, remains of white australia policy that lasted till 1973.

Even European countries have changed their policies and encourage the influx of highly skilled migrants irrespective of country of origin.

Australia still prefers most migrants from UK and hence the rules/policies are set accordingly.

Anyone from India with successful skills assessment ???

The policy is not really dearly beloved, but looks for competency, your objective to migrate and get a job is related to how competent are you in your profession. Most Migrants complain about not been able to get a job. Rememeber - you are not entitled to social benefits for 2 years, which is same for all Migrants.

India Ranks 3rd in the number of migrants migrating to Australia.

Australia is the only developed nation not recognising Indian Engineering Degrees.


Even countries like UK & USA have no problems, why is Australia so anti-India.

A CDR is not required for engg. graduates from UK, Ireland, etc. and the entire migration process is very easy for them.

Anyone with success from Engineers Australia with CDR!

What is CDR??? Is this a special request?
If not, that is what I would suggest if you'd like your degree to accepted in the application.

CDR stands for Competancy Demonstation Report and is used to show that a particular degree handed out is in par with the Australian equivalent of that degree.

I don't know much more about it, as all I know is what I have gathered from a few moan from some disgruntled acquaintances. Google it for further info.

Your explanation is sufficient, I didnt know what it stood for and it pretty much is the procedure I would recommend if he wants to go further.

What Australia needs is Miners, Welders, GPs, etc.

Such guys easily get class 457 visa sponsorship from Employers

Permanent residency for IT Pros is rather difficult. ACS has the most strict requirements to qualify as ICT professional.

Engineers Australia does not recognise Indian Engg. Qualifications, so a CDR is required which again requires experience letters issued by previous employers in a certain format (may prove very difficult to acquire) - very subjective assessment.

Australia permanent residency application is preceeded by Skills Assessment procedure which is the biggest hurdle to overcome.

A CDR involves writing career episodes which can be independently verified from past employers. The same can too difficult in many cases.

Hi, I am a Mech Engr from India and completed the whole of PR Process including the CDR myself without any Agencies help. The process is well documented in various sites. Instead of complaining about beloved, I suggest pl devote time in finding out the details and proceeding with the application process. All the best

How many years of work experience is required?

I can acquire experience letters from previous employers ONLY as per the default format.

How is the verification done by Engg. Australia?

My case was done in 2004. Things would have got changed a lot.

When I applied I had around 6 years of exp.

Regarding the Exp Letters, if you are unable to provide from the Current Employer, there are options to submit a declaration regarding your inability.

My case wasn't verified. So you may need to check with others for whom it was done.
