SOC Code confusion

Post by Kumaresh » Tue Sep 01, 2020 2:22 pm

Hi everyone,

Currently, I'm on tier 4 general student visa and I have recently completed my Master's degree in Cybersecurity. I have been offered a job and my employer is willing to provide tier 2 visa for me.

My job title is Cyber Security analyst and my job description as follows:

• Security risk assessment
• Systems engineering
• Basic understanding of vulnerability scanning and penetration testing
• Exposure to incident response within an IT security background
• Monitor the computer systems and networks in an organisation.
• Monitor and respond to 'phishing' emails and 'pharming' activity
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on security incidents and update knowledge base for future learning.
• Assist with installation, configuration and maintenance of data backup, Security hardware/software

I KNOW It's my employer responsibility to choose the proper SOC code which is closely related to my job description.

My employer said, he couldn't able to find the SOC code for the Cyber Security analyst job title. So they have assigned "2139 Information technology and telecommunications professionals not elsewhere classified" he thinks the description under this SOC code is similar to my job role, and I have received the COS letter today.

But in the COS letter he mentioned my job title as:

IT consultant/Cyber Security analyst (SOC code as: 2139 Information technology and telecommunications professionals not elsewhere classified)

Could someone please tell me is this ok to put my job title as above in the COS letter?

or is he made any mistake? I need to submit my visa application as soon as possible as my current visa is expiring within next 30 days.

Please advise me, so that I can inform my employer to amend the COS if required.

Thank you,

Kind Regards
Kumaresh

With respect, your employer does not want a refused visa on their record any more than you do. If you think they may have made a mistake with your COS, or you have a concern, you need to alert them and explain your concern.

It is not reasonable and definitely not safe to ask total strangers (with no checkable professional credentials) to look into this matter on your behalf.
I do not give immigration advice. I refer you to Immigration Rules, guidance, other online content and to your sponsor.
