Some questions about citizenship application

Post by damo » Sun Sep 05, 2010 7:40 am

Hello, I am an American citizen. My wife is an Irish citizen. We wed 6 years ago and moved over to Ireland over 3 1/2 years ago. We love it here and want to buy a house and stay stay permanently. We've both been working the whole time, I've been on the stamp 4 visa...first a 1 year one, and now a 5 year one. I am now eligible to apply for my citizenship here, and plan to do so. I am currently gathering all of the necessary documents and getting the letters from employers and other items needed. I have a few questions about the application however maybe someone could help me with.

One thing is in section 5.3 and 5.4 under Residency Details. They ask if I've lived in the state for five of the last nine years, and if I had permission to live in the state for 5 of the last nine years. The answer to these questions is no, but these are not the required times for the spouse of a citizenship. They can be seen here http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categ ... h_marriage, and I am eligible under all of these requirements. So my question is will this be apparent or should I attach a cover letter or something clarifying that I am basing my claim to citizenship based on marriage to a citizen? I don't want them to see the "no" and send it back straight away.

Another question is about the letters from my previous employers. One of them I'm not sure of the exact commencement and departure dates. Is it ok to only put the month and year of these dates for this job on the letter from that employer (eg. Jan 07 to Oct. 07)

Another question is about the part of listing all my past residences. This is impossible. My family moved many times when I was young and I was speaking with my Mother and she doesn't even have these. What should I do, just put most of them? It's no problem for the ones in Ireland I've only had two, but I'm nearing 35 years old and have lived in over a dozen houses in America, with four or five that I can't remember or have access to.

Any advice on these questions would be greatly appreciated. I am grateful for this resource and to anyone who is helping people with these difficult procedures.

5yrs residency - You can write your NO and put irish spouse in brackets right beside it. A cover letter will do no harm also.

Employment History - I am not aware that they ask for letters from employers now. When I filled my aplication in, I only put month and year and there was no problem with that.

Past Residences - Again, I dont know what the current requirement is but from my experience they only wanted past residences for the past 10years.
...though it tarries, it shall surely come...
