my son with cerebral palsy

hi guys,

my eleven year old son has cerebral palsy, and is in a wheelchair.my wife and I both work, my mother in law who is colombian, is very keen to come and help look after him, and they love each other madly! is it possible for her to apply for a long term carers visa? we would sponsor-support her....
all help very gratefully received!

James, not sure there is such a thing as a "a long term carers visa".

Can you detail the immigration status of yourself, your wife and your son?

My son and I are both UK citizens, my wife is his stepmum, and has had indefinite leave to remain for about 5 years..( and about to apply for UK citizenship) My son has dual diagnosis of CP and autism, so needs an awful lot of help and support.

James, I don't know whether this helps or not but if you download this document, which is part of the immigration rules, and then look at paragraph 317 you will see that it lists certain sub-categories there.

For example, if your mother-in-law a "mother or grandmother who is a widow aged 65 years or over"? Or if not, maybe "parent or grandparent under the age of 65 if living alone outside the United Kingdom in the most exceptional compassionate circumstances and mainly dependent financially on relatives settled in the United Kingdom"?

Does paragraph 317 help at all? If not it might be necessary to make an application outside the rules, stressing your son's medical condition, and supplying medical evidence, and see if that works.

Thanks for the help, looked at the rules....is it compassionate reasons for the person coming to the UK, or the person that they are coming to be with, that doesn't seem very clear?
Also, Is it better to apply while in the UK, or from outside?
