South African work permits for Brits

Post by Siggi » Fri Jul 06, 2007 3:34 pm

I have a South African friend who is married to a BC.
They would like to move to SA and settle, but are unsure of residency permit, requirements for the non SA spouse.

Does anyone on this site have any ideas?
Also I beleive that SA has relax it's attitude towards foreign immigrants with skills, which are require in SA like civil engineers ect.
I'm sure that I have seen a list of required skills some where.

If they are married, then she can presumably sponsor him for permanent residence in South Africa:

It might be a good idea for her to get her British citizenship before she leaves, however.

Come over on a tourist visa and apply for a life partner visa as soon as you arrive. Alot of people come over and "forget" to tell the immigration officer they are planning on staying on.....

Unfortunately the truth is that it's still a hell of a lot more difficult for a British citizen to live and work in South Africa than the other way around.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.
