Spanish Consulate schengen visa

Post by ashubhatt » Fri Dec 04, 2009 1:16 pm

Hi All

I'm going to apply for schengen visa for spain, I read on site that they have VFS service available which is charging 24£ for their service which I want to avoid. How can I directly apply for schengen visa to spain??

Do I need to book hotel and flight tickets before travelling? What If I dont get the visa? Has anybody applied for a visa to spain. Please help

Also note the Spanish Consulate is possibly the worst in terms of rudeness and general inefficiency.

Make sure you are fully prepared!

Could be tight. I've only anecdotal experience of Spanish Consulate and it's all bad. My gf recently had a German-issued Schengen and it took 10 days to arrive after the appointment - we paid for special delivery etc to expedite it, plus she's had German visa before....

Take that plus Spanish ineffiency and Xmas post....

Going by past experience with the Spanish consulate when my husband has applied for Schengen visas, I agree with Wanderer.

If u live outside London try France - they accept apps by post....

Otherwise I hear Warsaw is quite nice this time of year!

Berlin is a fantastic city - been many times!

German embassy is not bad - not as efficent and legend would have it but my gf got her visa in 10 days no problem.

I suggested Warsaw because I'd imagine not many head there in winter and the Polish Schengen Appointment book must be very empty.....

I do have a thoery the the more impoverished EU states give out schengens for easily for the tourist money, some of these places are very beautiful, like Tallinn, Prague, Budapest, Bucharest etc, well worth a visit.

All will be cold tho - tho it's crispy dry cold - I love it, not damp wet cold we get here.

I was in Siberia last Feb but one, it was -32c but really invigourating, cold, but stimulating. My cheeks froze a la dentists and also my vocal chord - lesson learnt, don't open ur mouth....

Arrived next day at Heathrow, +1c and it felt freezing! Horrible wet and right to the marrow.

And walking thorugh a meter of snow certainly hurts the legs........

Bear in mind tho the 10 days was AFTER attending the appointment - I can't remember the timescales there - was certainly over a week so ur looking at 20 days all told.

Plus the expense of the trip to London plus hotel because train was really expensive and bus was slow....

Worth it tho, Berlin is so cool, never been to Munich tho!

10 days from having the appointment/interview. U still have to factor in the wait for the appointment date.

If u were really desperate I'd try the non-touristy countries like the Baltic States or Poland or Slovenia - somewhere like that and just travel to Spain on it. Of course they won;t grant another if u don't use it in their country - ie spend some money there but if it's Slovenia u might not care.

Quick Question Guys,

What visa to take?

I'm visiting/applying first time for schengen visa for prague. Planning to book flight ticket/hotel before i submit the application.

Should I go for 90 days or more then 90 days visa?

Note that if you a family member of an EU citizen, you can renew your German visa by post if you have had one in the previous year. Makes it a lot easier than wasting time to attend the embassy.
