UK spouse's married name on naturalisation application

Post by RichardJ » Thu Nov 18, 2021 9:26 pm

Hi All

I submitted my naturalisation application today (ILR 5yr Spouse) and under my wife’s name on my application I put our married name even though this is not what’s on her British passport. **realise I might have messed up here!**

To further complicate things her passport is in her biological fathers name but she’s used her stepfathers surname all her life and there’s a note in her passport saying “also know as xxx (stepfathers surname)”. She's British from birth if that makes any difference.

I included both her passport surname and stepfather's surname as ‘Other Titles’ on my application.

I’ve included a bank statement from a joint account we hold together in our married name and I’m writing a cover note to submit with the other documents, and I can explain it at my biometrics appointment, but do you think this is enough or should I rather withdraw the application and resubmit? And is the fee refunded if so?

Many thanks
