Spouse visa applcation - No answer after 5 weeks

Were going out of our minds here. why is it taking so long?

every time I ring up the British embassy in South Africa it just rings and then cuts off, the one time in 20 that I actually managed to get through, all they said was "were still doing checks"

I there anybody I can complain to? this is just too much for us to take.
