Spouse visa overstay for 3 weeks

Hello,

I have a friend who is British national and married to a Pakistani national. They have two daughters who are also British nationals. My friend's wife has been in the UK for about 3 years now and her BRP expired on 19th March, 2022. Unfortunately, they could not apply for renewal on time as my friend has some health issues due to which he has been unwell. However, his wife health is fine.

Considering these circumstances, I would like to ask how likely it would be that if his wife applies for spouse visa extension in the UK than her application would be successful?

Would it be better if my friend's wife leaves the UK with their daugthers (who are both British nationals) and applies for her a new visa from Pakistan?
