i was living with my british boyfriend for 4 years in america, we got married 5 months ago and then he went back to the uk for work opportunity( 2 months ago), we are doing the application for me to get there but we are very confused, there is no way he can get bank statements from his bank in england cos he is being there for few months, can i letter be ok saying the balance of the account proving that he can support me, and also letter from our joint account here in america, what else do we need if he was out of his country for so long.

i am not sure if it is the same principal, I applied from south africa for my spouse visa. We had been living there for 5 years before emigrating. My husband came to the UK to start his new job and sent back certified copies of:
1. his passport
2. his job offer, job contract and a letter from his work to state how much he would be earning
3. proof of accomodation (we were stayingwith his aunt) and she supplied a confirmation letter as well as a copy of her council tax bill.
4. A letter from the bank where he opened an account

the BIA states:

How do I qualify to join my husband or wife?
You must show that:

you are legally married to each other
your husband or wife is present and settled in the UK
you both intend to live together permanently as husband and wife
you have met each other before
together you can support yourselves and any dependants without any help from public funds
you have suitable accommodation, which is owned or lived in only by you and your household, and where you and your dependants can live without any help from public funds
your husband or wife is not under 18, and
you are not under 18.

I am sure someone else will be along with some more advise.
regards
mads
