Hi everyone

Just needed some advice and guidance. I am very new to this whole process and the information is really overwhelming at times.

I am just looking for application and process summary really. Just want to know what works and how.

My husband is from a different country, we want to make an application for his visa. I am a UK citizen, I know the financial requirement is £29,000 a year. My question regarding this is what can be used to make up this total ? My actual income from my job is £26,000 however I get child maintenance from my ex which bumps my income up to £30,000. Can this be used as income ? Or does it have to be my job that gives me that amount ? Salaried employment includes work paid at a minimum fixed rate (usually annual), which is normally subject to a contractual minimum number of hours worked. Non-salaried employment includes work paid at an hourly or other rate, or paid an amount which varies according to the work undertaken.

For both salaried and non-salaried employment income, it is the gross income that is relevant, i.e. the income before tax.

Your extra income isn't salaried. Not sure that can be used to bump it up!

Also at a later date we would like to apply for my mother in laws visa as she is elderly and will be left alone with no family around to support her. Can someone advise on how long after we can apply and what visa it is and what are the requirements. You can apply at anytime, she can only come here to visit. That's where it starts and ends.

Was sceptical that child maintenance could be used but checking the Category C list seems to be there. Need to make sure that can meet evidence requirements.

Only other option if a gap is via savings of 16000 plus gap multiplied by 2.5 ((29000-26000)*2.5 + 16000 =23500)

Category C: Non-employment income – requirements
The following are sources of non-employment income which can be counted towards the financial requirement under Category C:

property rental

dividends or other income from investments, stocks and shares, bonds or trust funds

interest from savings

maintenance payments from a former partner of the applicant for the maintenance of the applicant

maintenance payments from a former partner of the applicant for the maintenance of any children of the applicant and that former partner
The keyword here is applicant. Don't get that confused with the applicant's sponsor!! Visa fees are very expensive, be sure before you ask someone to gamble.

UK Maternity Allowance, Bereavement Allowance, Bereavement Payment and Widowed Parent’s Allowance

payments under the War Pensions Scheme, the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme and the Armed Forces Attributable Benefits Scheme

a maintenance grant or stipend (not a loan) associated with undergraduate study or postgraduate study or research

ongoing insurance payments

ongoing payments from a structured legal settlement

ongoing royalty payments
