Hi,

Medical/Health insurance will be best for your case.

Your spouse will also need the medical/health insurance to register her first permission after arrival.

Private Medical Insurance or Travel Insurance with medical cover for accidents and medical incident including hospital stays in Ireland, valid for 12 months, or if less than 12 months – for the duration of your stay. Please bring an original Policy document, in your name for the entire length of your stay. It must include full cover for hospital with relevant dates included.

For your wife’s initial visit to Ireland, she should have short-term medical travel insurance.
According to Ireland’s medical insurance guidelines, she cannot be covered under Irish health insurance unless she is already in the country.

As soon as she arrives, you should arrange a 12-month health insurance policy for her—whether it’s with VHI, Irish Life Health (formerly 123), Laya, or any other recognized provider. Some employers also allow you to add your spouse to your existing policy, so if your company offers this, it’s worth arranging.

In any case, she will need full Irish medical insurance, especially since she’ll be staying long-term. Travel insurance will not be accepted when she goes to register for her Stamp 1G for the first time, so make sure the proper coverage is in place right after her arrival. Also, moving on she should be always insured when renewing her stamp registration.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Cheers!!
