Stamp 1 A Dependant - Help Please

Hi,

My Wife has just been granted a Stamp 1 ( She is doing ACCA and a far as i know its Stamp 1 A but on the GNIB card its Stamp 1 only. So i don't know if on the card it should be 1 or 1 A. My query is that am on Student Visa ( Stamp 2 ) Since 2 years now. My Visa will Expire in October 08 and I don't know if i can apply for a dependant visa as my wife has a Stamp 1 A now. And what will be my Stamp if i can apply.

If anybody can give me more info it will be great help.

Sorry i didn't include my nationaliy. Am from Mauritius. If anyone can answer my query plz help as i have to get a response so that i know if i have to pay school fees again to get my visa renewed or i can be dependent.

My best guess would no. Immigration in Ireland is not kind to dependants. Even if she were on a Stamp 1 as a work permit holder, she would have to work in Ireland for 12 months before being able to apply for family reunification. The only immigrants allowed to apply for family reunification immediately are those on a Green Card. Also, as far as I know, since there is nothing on it, a student isn't even able to bring dependants with him/her.

You said that you've been studying in Ireland. You may be able to take advantage of the Graduate Scheme, if you have completed a degree that qualifies. It will give you 6 months to work while you look for a job that qualifies you for a work permit or green card. Your other option, continue studying, or you could look for a trainee accountant position yourself, thought they would be difficult to find right now.

Just to add more info about my query. My wife was already in ireland since last year and was on stamp 2 until now. She has been working ( Part-time) for more than 1 year with same employer. She has the proof of working legally ( 20 hours ).

She would've had to be in Ireland on a work permit for 1 year in order to apply for family reunification. I haven't seen any information about family reunification for students.

The stamp 1A is seen as a variation of the student stamp. I know this because I inquired about the stamp in regards to LTR and Naturalisation and was told that it is treated as a student stamp, which means it doesn't count as reckonable residence for those purposes. However, they may have some double standards, so if you can't get any definite answers here, I would contact the GNIB about to be sure.
