Stamp1G to Stamp4 - need some guidance

Post by amy21 » Sat Aug 09, 2025 8:52 pm

Hi everyone,
I am currently in Dublin on a Stamp 1G, which I obtained as the dependent of my husband who was a Stamp 4 holder . My husband has recently received his Irish citizenship.
I now need to change my immigration status to reflect this change. I'm looking for advice on the best way to transition from a Stamp 1G to a Stamp 4, or if there is a more appropriate path.
I've checked the official websites but am finding the information confusing, especially regarding the status of my existing Stamp 1G. Any guidance or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

You do not need to do anything other than submitting a new renewal application online. Submit all documents that you would have submitted for your 1G renewal, plus your husband’s naturalisation certificate or Irish passport. In the additional comments section in the application form you simply need to mention that (1) you were granted permission to live in Ireland as the spouse of your husband, and (2) your husband has now been granted the Irish citizenship, so you are seeking a change of stamp.
