Start date in Certificate of sponsorship

Hello
My sponsor has offered me a job with a start date of March 1 2019.
My current job notice period is 90 days
I will only resign after i get the tier 2 entry clearance stamped on passport
I do understand that entry clearance is valid for 30 days and in the tier 2 application i can state that my travel date can be 7 days after start date.
Can i ask my sponsor to change the start date

What happens if i am not able to travel and my entry clearance expires . Can i apply for another visa using same cos ?
