Eeh you..sorry your friend needs to note that:
1. Citizenship & Immigration Canada have data on all passengers departing and arriving in Canada - by law the relevant carrier must submit such (passenger manifest) within a designated window..I believe its within 1 hour before and after take off relative to departure point. Info includes your passport details, DOB etc.
2. You will be asked to confirm your absence from Canada upon each re-entry into Canada. Such is routine for PR's to ascertain compliance with the residence requirement of the IRPA. Using 2 and 1 gives you a figure. Misrepresentation of such is an offence under the IRPA with subsequent consequences including removal.
3. CIC can demand for evidence substantiating your presence in Canada including but not limited to employment records, filed taxes, bank statements, hospital records, school records etc.
4. Since you can't be in two places at the same time it might be best to decide whether you wish to retain PR status. It is granted on the basis that you will make Canada your home.
