I have just heart a quite strange case and wanted to share with you.
this turkish student arrived in UK in July 2008 with 1 year student visa. He submitted an application to extend his student visa in July 2009.
4 weeks later he received his passport from HO with ILR stamped in it and a seperate letter explaining his rights in the UK under ILR.
He got shocked, seek some advice and decided to let the HO know about the mistake they made. He sent the passport back to HO and explained the mistake. 4 days later he received the passport back. HO thanked him and complimented him a lot in the letter for being honest. HO granted him 2.5 years student visa and they refunded the money back as a gesture of goodwill. his course was only for 1 year and he should have had 1 year extension.
I sometimes ask what really is going on.
