Student bringing mom for a visit

I'm an MA student, living in London with my wife and son who are my dependents. I'm trying to bring my mother for a 1-2 months visit. I was helping her fill out the application when a friend advised her that she shouldn't mention the fact that she has family studying in the UK, since that would increase the supposed risk of her not leaving the UK, in the eyes of the immigration officers.

That seems ludicrous to us, since even I have no intention of staying beyond my studies, but is her friend correct? Should my mom just apply for a regular tourist visa without mentioning us?

R u belong to a very rich family? Is your mother a multi millionaire? Who will visit UK just for tourism purposes? Has she own businesses in her own country?

If yes than your friend is right.

Deception is a serious ofference and may lead to entry ban upto 10 years.

If you/your mother/family can support the trip financially and she can show her ties with the place of residence (economic / social / family etc) then she'll be granted a visitor visa.

Completely agree with previous poster. Why risk a 10 year ban. Family members of students are frequently issued visit visas providing they show they meet the rules. Does your mum have a history of travelling out of the UK? Does she have family to return to? Does she have property in her country? A job? All of these will assist her in showing she is a genuine visitor. What is her nationality?
