Student Nurse

Post by samkma » Thu Oct 06, 2005 4:51 pm

Hi everyone
I am new here. My wife is in UK for the past 7 months as a student Nurse undergoing her adaptation at a nursing home, Her entry clearance is valid for one year, I wish to join her on a dependent visa, what are the possiblities and requirements.

I live in Bahrain and visited the Embassy a few weeks ago, they say my wife should get her PIN no. from NMC before I can get a visa and I do not see this requirement on the UKVISAS and other related websites.

What can be done? can someone advice accordingly and help please?

Could this possibly be a concern about whether there is sufficient income to make it clear that there will be no need to make any claim to certain Public Funds? That is, without the PIN they are not sure how much family income will be?

Thank you John for the quick reply
I am not sure abiut this. I have a bank statement and payslips of my wife for past five months with a current balance of £3600 in her account also her employer has issued a letter stating that she will complete her training in Oct 05 and will be employed fulltime as a nurse within the company and will be supported with a WP and LTR.
My experience was that the ECO did not even see my documents but asked me if my wife is in UK for past six months I said she is there for 7 months and next question was does she have a PIN no. my answer was no the ECO said comeback after she gets the PIN and the application was returned.

Can you advice please.

Chess Thank you for the valuble advice. What do you mean by FLR? Her employer will apply for WP next month.

FLR means Further Leave to Remain. it is applied for separately once a WP is approved

Given that we are already in October, has she now finished the training? Or still will later this month? When?

There are two possible outcomes to that training and mentoring ... she passes ..... and clearly will be earning a defined salary for the foreseeable future .... or she fails .... in which case she will presumably cease to be in possession of such an income.

I think ... put yourself in the shoes of the ECO .... how would you feel about someone applying for a dependant's visa days before the situation is clear ... far better to await the outcome and then proceed.

First thank you for replying.
My wife has completed her training commonly know in nursing areas as Adaptation or Supervised Practice. Now she is waiting for the decision to be set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and it will be positive. 99% of decisions are positive, as all Overseas nurses who come to UK are qualified, all they need is adaptation.

Yet how can the ECO take a desicion of issues entry clearance to one person??

Once again I thank you for the replies and i do appreciate it.

Just a caveat, the fact that others have been successful does not mean that your application will be successful. ECO's have a wide discretion and often make subjective decisions on a case by case basis.

What I meant was don't take it for granted that you will get the EC. I did not say or mean that you are an unlucky person.

You have good precedents in that others holding the same paperwork in the same situation as you have got the EC's but remember you don't have an EC until it is actually issued!

Good luck with your application.

Has your wife heard from the NMC yet? I think you should wait until she gets that confirmation before you apply for an EC again.

Your mention your wife's colleagues' spouses applying in Chennai. But you are not going to apply there, are you, you are applying in Bahrain. It should not make any difference but different British Missions no doubt adopt slightly different policies.

So wait until your wife hears from the NMC and you should not encounter a problem, even in Bahrain.

Samkma, congratulations.

Out of interest, is your wife fully registered as a nurse in the UK now?

For John

Post by samkma » Thu Nov 24, 2005 6:36 am

Thank you John
No she is not yet fully registered, it is another part of the story the place where she is doing her adaptation is not signing her off, she needs just three months of adaptation but she's there for past eight months, need to do something after I get there.

Will keep you informed. Can you be of any help to the signoff matter??
Thanking you once again.

Sorry, no. It is clearly a technical nursing matter. All I would say is that the UK is short of the number of nurses it needs and is therefore keen to bring in nurses from overseas ... but of course does need to ensure that standards are maintained.

Hopefully Samkma it will all be resolved satisfactorily in the near future.

How do I know anything about this? Until the Government abolished them two years ago I was Chair of the local Community Health Council, a statutory body designed to be "the patient's friend". The local NHS Trust hospital brought in quite a few nurses from overseas. I therefore got to know something about the mentoring etc procedure that the nurses needed to go through.
